The performance of a photovoltaic (PV) energy source along with a battery energy storage system (BESS) is investigated under several system conditions. The study examines the responses of the system under varying levels of solar irradiation of the PV model due to weather conditions. We also test the system while changing the load condition with fixed solar irradiation. An electromagnetic transient program (EMTP)-type model has been developed to simulate the power system and the related control circuitry. The system consists of three types of converters a boost DC/DC converter, a bidirectional DC/DC converter, and the grid-imposed DC/AC inverter. Different simulation scenarios are tested and evaluated. The simulation results demonstrate how the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) control would react corresponding to the irradiation state. The DC link voltage and the state of charge of the battery (SOC) are affected as well.
