Abstract

In this paper, to improve flux-regulation ability and reliability of conventional hybrid excitation flux-switching (HEFS) motors, a 24Slots - 10Poles three-phase HEFS motor with much less permanent magnet is proposed. First, the accuracy of the traditional HEFS motor model is verified and its magnetic circuit characteristics are analyzed. Second, the topology and operation principle of proposed motor are introduced. Third, the electromagnetic performance, including the back-EMF, output torque and flux-regulation ability are investigated by finite-element analysis. Compared with the conventional HEFS motor, the predicted results indicate that the proposed motor exhibits enhanced flux-regulation capacity, excellent deexcitation ability and higher efficiency in high speed zone. Hence, the proposed HEFS motor is suitable for electric vehicle and hybrid electric vehicle applications.
