Amorphous VS<sub>4</sub> (a-VS<sub>4</sub>) is prepared from the crystalline one (c-VS<sub>4</sub>). Li insertion into a-VS<sub>4</sub> involves the amorphous–amorphous phase transition from Peierls-distorted chain-like structure to [VS<sub>4</sub>]<sup>3−</sup> tetrahedra-based structure.
