TLDR

Droplet force and velocity in the weld pool were analyzed during gas metal arc welding. The study aims to identify optimal gas metal arc welding parameters for steel applications. The authors varied shielding gas composition, applied a modified force balance model to calculate droplet forces, and conducted experiments to validate the model. Pure argon and argon mixtures with O₂ or CO₂ were evaluated, and experimental results confirmed the model predictions.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to find the parameters in gas metal arc welding for the application of steel. The force and velocity with which the droplet falls in the weld pool during the welding process were analysed. The effects of different shielding gases used in the welding process were studied by varying the percentage of different shielding gases during the welding process. During the welding process different types of forces affected the droplet which was calculated by modified force balance model (MFBM) analytically. Experimentation was conducted to observe the effect of the shielding gas and validate the analytical model. Effect of pure argon, different percentage of O2 and CO2 mixed with the argon were observed and compared the result with the experimental data.
