Confirmation of the stability of reference points is one of the main problems in deformation analysis. The difficulty lies in the datum defects of monitoring networks. A strategy has been developed by the authors and successfully applied in a number of projects. The method leading to the minimization of the first norm of the vector of displacements of reference points has been designed for identifying unstable reference points. Having flagged the unstable reference points, estimation and statistical testing of their displacements are performed.
