Abstract

Endek wastewater has low biodegradability and consequently it is less efficient to improve it with biological wastewater treatment. Therefore, there is a need to enhance the biodegradability of endek wastewater by conducting the pre-treatment using ozone-hydrogen peroxide. The present study aimed to investigate the biodegradability of organic matter in Endek wastewater through ozone/hydrogen peroxide treatment. Ozone generator was used for the treatment using 400 mg/h of ozone added with 1, 3 and 5 g/L of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). The wastewater was observed, showing it initially level of COD was 781 mg/L and BOD was 112 mg/L. The results obtained from the ozone-hydrogen peroxide treatment were quite appreciable as it reduced color and COD of endek wastewater by 92% and 26%, respectively. After 60 min of the treatment, the biodegradability of endek wastewater increased to 0.45.
