Abstract

A new iron(III) oxyhydroxide phase has been synthesized with the estimated composition (FeO)4(OH)4(HMoO4). The material has a structure analogous to that of β-FeOOH but with molybdate anions, rather than chloride, apparently occupying the tunnel sites. This represents the first synthesis of the β-FeOOH structure to be effected in the absence of a halide ion.
