Abstract An efficient methodology for the synthesis of highly functionalized pentacyclic isoindole-fused benzo[b,e][1,4]diazepine derivatives from readily available common reactants in water has been developed. The tandem reaction resulted in efficient assembly of two new rings and four σ bonds including three C–N bonds in a one-pot operation.
