Abstract The first palladium-catalyzed P-C coupling reaction of aryl halides with (hydroxymethyl)phosphines is described. Hydroxymethylphosphines act as cheap and easy to use H3PO and CH3P(O)H2 equivalents. Tertiary diarylmethylphosphine oxides 5 and triarylphosphine oxides 6 are accessible in a one pot reaction in overall yields between 45-60%.
