Abstract

The commercially available nonionic superbase P(CH 3 NCH 2 CH 2 ) 3 N ( 1 ) is far superior to DBU for the conversion of primary and secondary alkyl halides to alkenes. A reason for the efficacy of acetonitrile as a solvent for the halides requiring extended reaction times is presented.
