Abstract A highly enantioselective oxidative dearomatization of 1-naphthol derivatives (Kita spirolactonization) catalyzed by chiral hypoiodite species prepared in situ from chiral quaternary ammonium iodide in the presence of hydrogen peroxide is reported.
