The Pauson-Khand reaction (cocyclization of alkynes with alkenes and carbon monoxide by octacarbonyldicobalt leading to cyclopentenones) was greatly accelerated by trimethylamine N-oxide in the presence of oxygen in dichloromethane at 0 °C to room temperature. This process worked quite effectively for both intermolecular and intramolecular reactions.
