Service-Oriented Separation Assurance for Small UAS Traffic Management

Abstract

Small UAS vehicles are projected to bring substantial economic benefits, but separation assurance is a challenging problem and the subject of on-going research. Here we survey the research contributions, analyze the remaining challenges and key drivers, and propose a system architecture solution for small UAS traffic management and separation assurance, incorporating airspace structure and legal authority.
