Abstract A TTF derivative with an N1-tert-butyluracil moiety, TtbU, was prepared as a new electron-donor molecule capable of multiple hydrogen-bondings. Formation of the two different types of double hydrogen-bonding motifs, Watson–Crick and reverse Watson–Crick types, was demonstrated for the first time between TtbU and its I3− salt in the crystalline states.
