Abstract Yellow core–blue shell coordination polymer nanoparticles were prepared through the combination of Fe2+ to the surface FeIII–CN sites exposed on the yellow core nanoparticles of nickel hexacyanoferrate, K0.12Ni3.0[Fe(CN)6]2.04·14H2O. The Fe2+-attached surface shell layer, FeII–NC–FeIII, changed into the Prussian blue-like valence state, FeIII–NC–FeII, via single-electron transfer.
