A general method for the asymmetric synthesis of homochiral β-substituted and α,β-disubstituted β-propiolactones is described involving the oxidative cleavage of β-hydroxy acyl ligands attached to the iron chiral auxiliary [(η5-C5H5)Fe(CO)(PPh3)].
