Abstract

Abstract Methods of selective methylation of the nitrogen atoms of the ethyl ester of 3‐(1 H ‐imidazol‐4‐yl)‐2‐propenoic acid are reported. The nitrogen atom α to the ethylenic chain was methylated after protection of the β nitrogen with a phenacyl group.
