Diphosphine (2R*5R*)-2,5-bis(diphenylphosphinomethyl)bicyclo[2.2.1]heptane (1) was prepared in nine steps from 2-cyclopentanone. A rhodium cationic complex containing 1 was used as a catalyst for the regioselective hydroformylation of styrene and vinylarenes under mild conditions (carbon monoxide/hydrogen, 20-40 atm, 25-50 °C) with high branch/linear ratios.
