Exploring the Substrate Scope of the Ru(II)-Catalyzed Kharasch Reaction

Abstract

The Kharasch reaction, or atom-transfer addition of polyhalogenated alkanes to alkenes is known to be catalyzed by a number of Ru(II) complexes. The easily prepared [RuCl 2 (PPh 3 ) 3 ] was used to investigate the reaction scope. A number of halogenated alkanes were added to a range of alkenes with good to excellent regioselectivities.
