Nickel-Mediated Selective Carbonylation Routes to Thiocarbamates

Abstract

The nickel complexes Ni(PPh3)2X2 (X = Cl, Br) have been found to be active for the selective oxidative coupling of aryl thiols with secondary amines and carbon monoxide to give thiocarbamates. With added oxygen, the reaction is catalytic, although competitive oxidation of the thiol is problematic.
