Abstract

The chapters in the book are based on presentations that were originally given at an international conference in Madrid. These chapters, then, are full scientific papers, and represent a wide international contribution to the scholarship on autism. The conference for which the book was commissioned was run by the (Spanish) Association of Parents of People with Autism, but this is not really a book that parents would easily access. It has a wide range of interests, and aims to derive useful practical applications, and attempts to ground theory in practice and vice versa. In attempting such a grand scheme it tends to err on the side of the scientific endeavour, though there are also chapters which seem to have a more direct application for practitioners. Among them is one on partnership between parents and professionals, and an insightful chapter entitled ‘On being Moved in Thought and Feeling’.
