Abstract

The formation of dynamic hydraulic jumps in an oscillating rectangular container was performed and videoed with a high resolution, high-speed digital imaging system. The jumps were observed traversing between the walls of the tank when the container was oscillated near the surface wave resonance frequency based on liquid depth and it was found that the directionally based hydraulic jump formation frequency matches the driven frequency. Furthermore, the spatial characteristics of the jump are dependent on the amplitude and frequency of the oscillation.
