Abstract

With the influence of harmonic potential, through tailoring the dispersion profile, we investigate the inhomogeneous NLS equation which governs the optical soliton propagation in a dispersion varying optical fiber. Conveniently, we attained one-soliton solution by means of a Lax pair through a Darboux transformation technique. By allowing the obtained solution through a specific choice of external potential, some novel results were attained. Particularly, for the first time, we observe soliton conversion from bright to dark in dispersion varying fiber by carefully manipulating the control parameters of the dispersion profile. This method can be used to design a large variety of external potentials through the dispersion profile, which could be meaningful for manipulating solitons experimentally. The results may be beneficial to study the soliton propagation in dispersion varying fiber in optical communication systems.
