The Research of Winter Olympics: Example of Erzurum

Abstract

The purpose of thisresearch is to analyse the demographic structure of people, who live in thecentral districts in Erzurum, and their attitudes for Winter Olympics.Regarding the balance among the people, between 18-35 ages, who live in thedistricts of Palandöken, Aziziye and Yakutiye in Erzurum city, and interviewingwith totally 400 people face to face this research was formed. A survey wasused to collect data in this research. The researcher determined the survey bymaking use of literature and reviewing the opinion of expert. The questions ofthe survey was prepared through the criteria of jury while choosing Olympiccities. The questions of this survey have to have register of thecandidateship, which will be presented to IOC, and the structure of within thequestions form of IOC, and it has to response for some questions under specifictitles. Literal descriptions may change among different types of documents andthe level of detail may be more or less. These criteria are considered as;Vision, concept and heritage, Sport and facilities, Environment andmeteorology, Accommodation, Transportation, Medical social services and dopingcontrol, Safety and security, Technology and energy, Legal issues, Customs,Visa operations, the support of Government and Public, Finance and marketing.Our expectations from the questions of the survey is to be met what thecriteria want. Thereare 16 multiple-choice questions in the first section of the relevant survey.Our second assessment consists of 31 questions. To determine the demographiccharacteristics of participants through the first 5 questions and theirinterests and participation level to sport through 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th questions and their approach for Olympicsthrough the other questions. In the second scale of the survey, the first 15questions were prepared to understand how Universiade Winter Games wasperceived. The questions between 16 and 23 are to get information about theperception of EYOF that will be organized in 2017. The other questions from 24to 31 were compiled from the questions of Olympic committee based mainly uponwhat kind of necessities the cities of Olympic candidateship should have. Thedata from these surveys is analysed by means of the software of SSPS 21.0 incomputer environment. While the data was, being analysed both the analysis ofFrequency and percentage and Chi-square test used to compare the socio-economiccharacteristics of the districts, where they live in, to their interest and thelevel of participation to the sport, were used.
