Abstract The N‐heterocyclic carbene catalyzed [8+2] oxidative annulation of tropone with aldehydes was developed, giving cycloheptatriene‐fused furanones in moderate to good yields. Further reduction of the cycloadducts afforded cycloheptane‐fused furanones and dihydrofuranones in good yields. magnified image
