Abstract

In this paper, a capacitor clamped three-level inverter, interfacing plug-in electric vehicle (PEV) battery into the grid, is utilized to compensate for active and reactive power of the load. To achieve this goal, a double-loop control strategy is proposed in this paper. For compensating active and reactive power from the PEV's battery, an exclusive phase detector control loop is utilized along with a novel pulse width modulation (PWM) scheme to generate suitable switching signals for the multilevel inverter (MLI). Also, the effect of the proposed compensation method on the battery's state of charge is investigated in this paper. The simulation results are presented to evaluate the validity of the proposed strategy.
