A Study on Correlation Between Air Pollution and Traffic

Abstract

The public has an important role in determining programs which combat air pollution. A major task in any community is to stimulate public acceptance of the responsibility and to take some kind of action. This paper wants to draw attention to the pollution that traffic congestions and traffic in general produce, and to encourage the population to use alternative means of transportation and to promote clean cars. The purpose of this paper is to find a correlation between the traffic density and the pollution levels in Timisoara, Romania. Traffic and pollution data was gathered in several parts of the city, using different measuring devices and services for both traffic and pollution levels. A second purpose was to calibrate and study the differences between the boards used to gather pollution data, and to investigate several traffic and air quality services.
