A novel core–shell Co<sub>8</sub>FeS<sub>8</sub>@NG hybrid was synthesized through a simple, cost effective, single-step <italic>in situ</italic> hydrothermal process, exhibiting superior electrochemical performance as advanced electrode materials in solid-state supercapacitors.
