The application of Smart Grid technology and devices in medium voltage distribution networks allows to solve the problem of low quality electric energy for consumers. One of such devices is a thyristor-regulated booster transformer (TRBT). This is an innovative smart device with thyristor control, which is characterized by a high-speed operation and provides voltage regulation in the 6-10 kV electric network. The article is devoted to the study of TRBT regulation characteristics. The method of TRBT two-zone alternating regulation is proposed. The mathematical and simulation models of TRBT have been developed, and it has allowed to obtain and to study the regulation characteristics for the three main operating regimes of TRBT. Finally, the output voltage regulation limits have been defined and the TRBT control laws have been formed.
