Venlafaxine ER Blocks the Norepinephrine Transporter in the Brain of Patients with Major Depressive Disorder: a PET Study Using [18F]FMeNER-D2

Abstract

This study demonstrates that clinically relevant doses of venlafaxine extended-release block the norepinephrine transporter of the major depressive disorder patient's brain. The data support the notion that the antidepressant effect of venlafaxine involves a combination of serotonin transporter and norepinephrine transporter blockades.
