Abstract : This report presents human engineering recommendations and suggestions concerning the design of Air Force weapon systems for ease of maintenance. The report is divided into three main sections: Introduction, which discusses the format of the report: System Decisions for Maintainability, which discusses system design decisions and interactions; and Detail Design for Maintainability, which presents detailed design recommendations. A Decision Structure Chart provides the system designer with a notation of the critical elements of maintainability and a Topic Index Matrix presents the detail designer with an estimate of the general importance of the interactions of specific design elements.
