A synopsis of <i>Ipomoea</i> (Convolvulaceae) in the Americas: Further corrections, changes, and additions

Abstract

Abstract Continuing studies of American Ipomoea have accounted for a large percentage of the unplaced names remaining in the 1996 publication by Austin and Huáman. To accomplish the current list we have studied protologues and examined type specimens or images of type specimens or other original material. In this paper we treat the binomials proposed before 1995 and add names published since that year. We include three categories: Accepted taxa, Additions and corrections to the 1996 and 1998 lists of unplaced names, and Unplaced names. In total, we here review 336 of the taxa published in American members of Ipomoea to bring their nomenclature and taxonomy to date. We have now reduced the unplaced names by about seventy percent.
