Abstract

Development cooperation has faced new challenges since UN member states agreed to implement the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) from 2016. The era of SDGs requires much more effort today from developed and developing countries to make a better world. In addition, the international community needs to address the failure of developing countries over the last decades: most, especially in sub-Saharan Africa, are still shacked by poverty despite the significant increase in gross world product. In this era, “Going Beyond Aid: Development Cooperation for Structural Transformation” proposes new solution for development cooperation that focuses on New Structural Economics (NSE). Going Beyond Aid analyzes how China, the powerful emerging actor in development cooperation, has achieved economic development and helped developing countries for economic development through structural transformation. In this article, the book will be reviewed in terms of structural transformation, the Chinese model of development cooperation, and new concepts of development cooperation.
