The synthesis and antitubercular activity of trisindoline (2) and benzylated trisindolines (3a-b) are reported herein. Trisindoline (2) was synthesized from isatin (1) in 97% yield, in addition benzylated trisindolines (3a-b) from 5-bromo-1-(4-nitrobenzyl)isatin (5a) and 1-benzyl-5-bromoisatin (5b) in 83% and 80% yields, respectively. Antitubercular assay showed that trisindoline (3a) has a better activity to inhibit Micobacterium tuberculosis H37Rv.
