Abstract

Abstract Four deer in a 58-acre pen responded to a 25-acre burn with double the degree of utilization on the burned as on the unburned part for the first and second years. This was the first burn under a full stand of pine and the understory was 15 to 25 feet high. Production of browse as well as its palatability was increased by the fire. The dangers of too-frequent burning are outlined.
