A FRET based AceDAN–porphyrin(Zn) dyad was designed to generate red emission and singlet oxygen (<sup>1</sup>O<sub>2</sub>) simultaneously, which were utilized successfully for two-photon excited fluorescence imaging and PDT of cancer cells.
