Abstract

Shields are commonly used to reduce conducted and radiated emissions in automotive electrical drive applications. Concerning a cable shield, the nonideal parameters due to its structure determine the current distribution between the shield and the ground. These currents are decisive for magnetic field emissions. It is important to quantify the current distribution between the shield and the ground due to strict requirements for low-level field emissions. The geometrical arrangement of the cables with respect to other components and the ground plays a crucial role in the estimation of shield and ground currents. An analytical approach to obtain shield and ground currents as a function of inner conductor current is presented.
