We propose a complete procedure for synthesizing radiation patterns of leaky waves using binary programmable metasurface. As an example, a binary leaky-wave antenna (BLWA) is designed and fabricated using the fast procedure. By optimizing coding states of all radiation elements of the BLWA, beam forming is realized at a fixed frequency. Full-wave simulations and measurements of the proposed BLWA further prove the effectiveness and practicability of the design procedure. The presented method and BLWA may find many significant applications in novel communication and radar systems.
