VATS segmentectomy is safe and effective for the treatment of benign and malignant pulmonary lesions. Compared with open thoracotomy, it is associated with shorter hospitalization time and decreased number of severe complications. The preservation of functional lung tissue, combined with a minimally invasive approach, make VATS segmentectomy highly suitable for patients with reduced pulmonary function or severe comorbidities.
