The purpose of the paper is to present the basic factors related to the application of CAx systems in mechanical engineering education. The main aspects of parts and assemblies modelling in 3D MCAD (Mechanical CAD) systems are discussed. The general rules and selected methods used in creation of 3D models are outlined. As a result of the authors' experiences based on the long-time education process carried out with the use of CAx tools, the main recommendations for academic teachers and users of CAx systems have been presented.
