Since 1 June 2016, the national power utility company (PLN) Bali has been launced Bali Eco Smart Grid to support Bali Clean and Green Bali Province Program. To improve customer service and efficiency program, PLN Bali introduce advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) by implementing 2 ways smart meter based on low range wide area network (LoRa WAN) as replacing pre- and postpaid existing digital meter. LoRa WAN technology is selected as the suitable among low power WAN (LPWAN) technologies after evaluating based on Indonesia regulation covering frequency allocation and license, devices availability, cost, and implementation method. PLN Bali deploy 1,000 2 ways smart meter based on LoRa WAN at Kuta area. It can be seen from the implementation test results that 2 ways smart meter based on LoRa WAN can be operated on both pre- and postpaid models properly, gave 100% satisfaction to all customers, gave 100% success meter reading rate, perfect control accuracy, investment cost efficiency of 60% and operational cost to 90% It is recommended that 2 ways smart meter based on LoRa WAN can be deployed to all customers in PLN Bali.
