This Letter presents traveling wave (TW)-based solutions for transmission line two-terminal data time synchronization. By analyzing line energization or fault records with high sampling rates, the arrival times of modal TWs at both line ends are estimated, and then used to compute a synchronization factor through which local and remote time references are aligned. Line energization and fault case studies were carried out using the Alternative Transients Program to evaluate the proposed solutions, which in turn proved to be accurate and easy-to-use.
