Abstract

DC-side oscillation is investigated for a voltage source converter-based multiterminal direct current (VSC-MTDC) system. Confronted with this issue, the virtual synchronous generator (VSG) control strategy is proposed to dampen dc-side oscillations and enhance the inertia of an MTDC network. Furthermore, the working mechanism of VSG technology, to provide the virtual inertia and damping, is discussed comprehensively and thoroughly. The proposed VSG control does not require the precise acquirement of system parameters and can eliminate the wide frequency region instead of a specific frequency point. Moreover, the introduction of VSG control can enhance the inertia, damping, as well as the stability margins of the system. Finally, the performance of the proposed control strategy is validated by the simulations of both time domain and frequency domain.
