SUMMARYIn January 1986, Aboriginal cave paintings were discovered in the remote valley of the Maxwell River. It is the most spectacular gallery of cave paintings known in Tasmania and the first to be found in western Tasmania. The art is highly significant even though its age is presently unknown. In addition, five occupation sites were also discovered, one of which probably contains an occupation deposit that is the first of its kind to be discovered in Tasmania.
