Abstract

This book, although timely, falls significantly short of its stated objectives, which are to provide both an introduction to, and a comprehensive review of the present theoretical and experimental understanding of the surface physics and chemistry of semiconductors. The reason lies in the extremely uneven quality of the contributions: those on surface state theory, the surface space charge layer, and silicon and germanium surfaces can be highly recommended, but the articles on compound semiconductors, measurement techniques and device aspects are rather trivial accounts of important topics.
