A facile one-pot approach is utilized to construct nickel-ion–PDA complex thin coatings on MoO<sub>3</sub>@PPy microtubes, which can be carbonized under an inert atmosphere to obtain nickel/N-doped carbon microtubes (Ni/NCMTs).
