Short-cavity DFB fiber lasers

Heavily erbium and ytterbium-doped photosensitive silica optical fibers were fabricated purposely for short-cavity fiber laser applications by the SPCVD method. We demonstrated operation of the ytterbium DFB fiber laser core pumped at the 976 nm wavelength, featuring the shortest cavity length of 12 mm in the form of π-shifted Bragg grating. Operational characteristics of the 24 mm length ytterbium free erbium DFB fiber laser core-pumped at both 976 and 1490 nm wavelengths are considered as well.
