Metamaterial structure based on I-shaped split ring resonator is designed and analysed for X-band frequencies. The negative permittivity, negative permeability and negative index of the structure have been verified using Nicolson-Ross-Weir (NRW) technique using transmission and reflection coefficients. The figure of merit (FOM) of the designed structure is calculated using negative refractive index. The proposed structure resonates between 5 and 15 GHz for various applications including radar and short wave communication.
