Recently, the performance evaluation of V2X(Vehicle to Vehicle, Infrastructure, Pedestrian and so on, or namely Vehicle to Everything) Communication System becomes more and more imperative because of the rapid development and urgently-needed deployment of Intelligent Transportation System. 802.11p and LTE-V are the main communication technologies which would be used in V2X system. Performance evaluation of 802.11p has been carried out extensively both by modelling, simulation and field test, while LTE-V is less evaluated as an emerging technology. This article intends to provide an application-oriented performance comparison between 802.11p and LTE-V in real world environment. We built a probability model to evaluate the communication performance under the application Intersection Collision Warning(ICW), and found out that both 802.11p and LTE-V could not guarantee to fulfill this application successfully. Based on the result, we proposed and accomplished a multi-hop V2X system with RSUs acting as a relay station of the V2V messages. Further field test results showed a significant improvement of the application.
