Epidural analgesia 1: recent history

Abstract

This is the first of two articles on epidural anaesthesia. It examines the recent history of events that allowed epidural analgesia to become established practice in maternity care. The second article will consider the research basis of these developments, providing valuable insight into the debate on the control of childbirth.
